Types of Membership

Depending on your role in the Risk and Insurance sector, SPIAO offers two different types of memberships.

  • Membership in the Society shall be open to any public entity within Canada. Each such member shall be represented by an employee or official who is engaged or interested in the field of insurance and risk management. Each public entity may elect to have more than one representative in the Society. e privileges of voting and holding office are limited to representatives of the public entity members of the Society. It is understood and agreed that membership is also conditional upon payment of membership fee, payable by January 31st of the membership year.

Costs – $100.00 (HST not applicable)

  • The associate membership shall be open to non-public entities engaged or interested in the field of insurance and risk. Such associate members will be represented by an employee or official of the non-public entity and shall have no voting rights. The associate membership annual fee shall be the same as the membership fee, payable by January 31st of the membership year.

Costs – $100.00 (HST not applicable)

  • The Corporate Membership costs the same as a Member or Associate Member ($100.) Rather than being in the name of a person, you can now purchase memberships in the name of your organization. This allows you to buy as many memberships as you want with the flexibility of being able to send different individuals to our events. Now, anyone from the organization can use the membership to sign up for our workshops or conference and can take advantage of the member rate. Your organization will be limited to the number of Corporate Memberships purchased for each event. This will not preclude you from purchasing additional memberships for your organization or having individual memberships should you choose to do so.

Eg.   You purchase 3 Corporate Memberships, so up to 3 employees can attend a Workshop for the Member rate.  The Corporate Membership annual fee shall be the same as the membership and associated member fee, per number of memberships, payable by January 31st of the membership year.

Costs – $100.00 per Member Spot (HST not applicable)

  • To be a voting member of SPIAO, the applicant must be employed by an Ontario public entity such as regional or municipal government, school board, conservation authority or associated public insurer organization.

Individuals who work in the insurance industry that service public entities my join as an associated member. An associated member enjoys all the benefits of the SPIAO membership such as member prices for the workshops; however, an associated member is not a voting member.

A SPIAO membership is per person and is not issued as a whole to an organization. For example, if two employees are joining then two memberships must be purchased. If a member is unable to attend, they may send a designate in their place at the member price. If a non-member is accompanying the member to a workshop, the non-member pays the non-member price.1-

If a member leaves their employer, the membership may be transferred to an alternative employee within the organization. Please notify Tsai Allen, Treasurer of any changes.
